Colonial Tavern at Hope Lodge

Join Us for some holiday cheer!

Christmas wasn’t always celebrated in the colonies…

During the mid-18th century the celebration of Christmas depended on where you lived and what religion you practiced. In New England, the Puritans actually made celebrations illegal but in the south, the holiday flourished! In Pennsylvania, while the Quakers were against celebrations, other ethnic communities celebrated in their own way. Far from the children-focused occasion it is today, the Christmas season was packed with adult activities with many colonists celebrating Christmas following English customs such as drinking, feasting, murmuring and wassailing.

Hope Lodge celebrates the holidays as the colonists of yore, with a bit of holiday cheer in our 18th century kitchen turned tavern where we feature a variety of craft brews for purchase from Round Guys Brewery of Lansdale. Come join us on December 14th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (must be age 21 and over with valid ID to participate). Ensure your spot by getting a free ticket for admission.
